There aren’t many projects more daunting than combining two genres in one role, for example, drama and action. But some actresses can make it work despite the strong demand to keep up with tough action sequences alongside gentlemen. That’s what Meryll Soriano delivered as Juno in the trending series The Iron Heart, which is why viewers swooned over her performance and got heartbroken with her character’s tragic ending.

In this edition of Kapamilya Toplist, we pay tribute to Juno’s journey in The Iron Heart.

She was a loving wife to Hermes (Joem Bascon), whom, in one scene, she welcomed with a heartfelt embrace after his series of missions for Priam (Albert Martinez). Juno was vocal about her hatred toward Priam, who trapped Hermes in debt of gratitude until he couldn’t find a way out. But at the end of the day, she trusted that his decisions were neither selfish nor evil.

As a woman, she was soused in moments that ripped her hearts yet forced her to be tough, such as losing her child by miscarriage and waking up one day to news about Hermes’ death. Such scenes highlight Meryll’s divine talent in drama. She makes the pain so palpable it’s hard not to hurt with her.

The series of events brought her to Priam’s territory for a confrontation that was as dangerous as we expected. We feared that Juno wouldn’t get out of the room alive, yet Priam threw her pity out of Hermes’ loyalty. Despite that, Juno didn’t flinch when she spitted a threat at Priam’s face that she’d destroy his empire whatever it takes.

She found the right allies, first, in Eros (Jake Cuenca). She was even the first person to sense that Eros is a secret agent, so she handed him Hermes’ things that might be useful as evidence against Priam. Cunning and unconvinced, Eros attempted to kill Juno, leading to an enthralling action sequence in the middle of the forest. The thing about Juno is she would always keep our anxiety up as we carefully guess whether or not she’d survive her fights, but she does each time. And in every battle, she would gain our trust and admiration even more to the point that she has become one of our favorite characters.

Bent on toppling down Tatsulok, she spied on the group’s activities and caught the chaos amid the launch of Athena (Emanuelle Vera)’s Athernity Beauty, saving Venus (Sue Ramirez) in the middle of the road as the latter called for rescue for Apollo (Richard Gutierrez) and Poseidon (Pepe Herrera).

And the way she earned the trio’s trust spoke of sincerity, as Meryll would translate her emotions through her eyes. She narrated to Apollo how Priam manipulated Hermes to lead a rotten life in that he kept him alive but slowly killed him inside.

They made a pact to fight the good fight. On the surface, their group seemed trivial, just a speck of dust that Tatsulok could easily brush off. But they have proven that it only takes an iron will to become successful.

At the end of their missions, Juno found meaningful relationships with her friends. She was their gatherer of intel and their Ate who mediates with their petty quarrels. Juno found a home in Apollo 5, that even though she found out Eros was the one who accidentally killed Hermes out of Priam’s orders, she only felt pity than hate. She would understand that Eros did it out of his sworn duty. She said that Eros’ apology and his strong desire to protect the common good were more than enough to grant him forgiveness.

We, viewers, were gifted with another serving of Meryll’s mesmerizing dramatic talent when her character discovered the secret hideout Hermes has been building. He was able to foresee that Juno would take over his mission and hoped she would bring the right people in the hideout. She did, by bringing the Apollo 5 with her. It was a quiet moment, with Juno staring at her and Hermes’ old photos and the letter he wrote.

Another heart-wrenching scene was when she had her final conversation with Karen (Miles Ocampo) on the latter’s deathbed after getting infected with the virus that Priam ordered to create. Again, she witnessed somebody die because of Priam’s wickedness, igniting her desire for revenge.

Juno’s final sequence was a total shock to the viewers, not only because of her tragic ending, but partly because we wanted Apollo 5 to survive altogether in the end. What happened was Juno encountered pieces of evidence that led her to information about the multinational crime group Altare and the intel she gathered pointed her to CIB, hinting that somebody from CIB is connected to Altare. She knew she was in danger, but she didn’t let fear melt her iron will. She made a recording on her laptop, hoping that her friends would find it in case she’s gone.

And even in her last moments, Juno delivered enthralling action, hitting every step precisely right as she encountered members of the Altare group. However, she fell down the building, much to Apollo’s shock.

While we’re still grieving over Juno’s exit, we also can’t wait to unravel the secrets of the Altare group and CIB.
