WATCH: Hybrid electric road train tested in Cebu

Commuters in Cebu City will be able to ride an electric train for free starting February 15.The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) calls it the Hybrid Electric Road Train. It was designed locally by engineers from the DOST&#x27;s Metal Industry Research and Development Center.The train, which is actually five connected buses, can hold up to 240 passengers. It is powered by a 300kva generator and dry cell batteries. The electric train is on a test run and researchers from DOST will be taking note of the results. At the end of the year, they will make a recommendation to Department of Transportation to see if the train is fit for a city like Cebu.The route of the train in Cebu will cover areas where the vehicle volume is low, and where jeepneys don&#x27;t usually go. -- with a report by Annie Perez, video by Jojo Satuita
