The Philippine military backs calls for the revival of the Anti-Subversion Law, which seeks to criminalize membership in the Communist Party of the Philippines. The law was repealed in 1992. Armed Forces of the Philippines Spokesperson Brig. Gen. Edgard Arevalo says this will help stop communist rebels from recruiting minors.

The military also backs Sen. Panfilo Lacson's call to amend the anti-terrorism law amid what Arevalo says are rising terror threats in Mindanao. Arevalo supports the removal of a P500,000 fine imposed on security forces who apprehend a suspected terrorist and is then later acquitted.
