020116-pia_main.jpgThe excitement remains even after a few hours since the Philippines’ third Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach left the country after her weeklong homecoming.

In an exclusive interview with the founder of online beauty pageant magazine and forum Missosology’s Pawee Ventura, he claimed that the hype about Pia is set to last really long.

“Well, you know Filipinos are notorious for being ‘ningas kugon.’ This can be both good and bad. We Filipinos are easily distracted by events. Whatever is ‘in’ at the moment becomes the hit item,” Pawee started.

“But, this is THE Miss Universe crown! Pia will be celebrated for long,” he said quickly adding that, “Huwag lang ma-involve sa scandal.”

According to Pawee, Pia’s win cemented what Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. Chairwoman Stella Marquez-Araneta said about the Philippines being a force to reckon with at the Miss Universe pageant.

“Venezuela is no longer the one-to-beat in international pageants. Pia's win OFFICIALLY sealed the status of the Philippines as a pageant powerhouse,” he said.

Apart from that, Pia’s win also confirmed the fact that the Philippines can turn things around when it comes to voting. But what many do not know is that this has already been proven by Pinoys several years back.

“The Filipinos had already proven our voting powers in Miss Universe during those times when the Miss Photogenic award was decided through internet voting! The Philippines has won the Miss Photogenic award seven times (five of them via internet voting, including a back-to-back and a threepeat),” said Pawee.

He stressed that Pinoy’s voting power was also obvious even in the Miss World pageant through Mafae Yunon and Karla Bautista’s Top 5 finish back in 2003 and 2004, respectively which was made possible through text votes.

With all eyes still on Pia, especially after her historic and awkward win, how does he see her reign coming along?

“Under the new management, they are all set to give Pia the star treatment that she deserves… Probably there will be more TV guestings because the new management is bent on packaging the Miss Universe winner as a celebrity,” he said.

It may be recalled that Pia recently announced that she will be Inside Edition’s special Superbowl correspondent.
