Director Mikhail Red showed his support for good friend Kip Oebanda at the recent special screening of the latter's latest digital horror movie, Abandoned. The Eerie director said that he was very impressed with the new iWant movie, considering the limited shooting days that the production had.

"I was really impressed. I know na working with iWant iba yung constraints. I think parang mas konti yung shooting days and yet, naka-deliver siya ng very effective na story, and effective scares, and may production value," Mikhail told PUSH.

As a filmmaker who specializes in the horror genre, Mikhail shared how he admires films that have 'layered' themes and discusses relevant topics. "Ako I really like films that are layered. Here there's like a mother-son dynamic, and it tackles [other] themes like mental health. And I really appreciate it when filmmaker uses horror as a vehicle to push more serious subtext.

"I think it's a very—in a way—current subject right now; pushing awareness for mental health and I feel like for most deliver it effectively. And I think nagdala rin talaga is yung dynamics ng mother-and-son, ang galing ng performance," he added.

Following the success of his movie Eerie early this year, Red is currently preparing for the release of his two new genre movies, Dead Kids and Block Z.

When asked for updates on the much-anticipated zombie movie, Block Z, which is top-billed by former love team Julia Barretto and Joshua Garcia, along with McCoy De Leon, Maris Racal, and Yves Flores, Red said, "Medyo matagal yung post-production, kasi its a zombie movie maybe three to four months, it might come out December, or early last year, I'm not yet sure."

While waiting for the Block Z, Red's another psycho-thriller movie, Dead Kids had just finished shooting and so fans can expect it to be released this year.

"And then I just finish another one, Dead Kids... That one will come out first baka later this year," he said.
