During the last six months of working on the series Bagong Umaga, Sunshine Cruz said she has gone through a lot of different experiences, one of which included battling the COVID-19 virus which she contracted on the set. Despite this, the 43-year-old celebrity mom revealed why she has no regrets joining the show.

“No regrets kasi I think isa kami sa mga nauna na nagkaroon ng lock-in taping sa Love Thy Woman. Nagkaroon rin kami ng COVID scare dun with kuya Christopher de Leon. Pero kasi ang ABS-CBN naman, ever since grabe sila mag-alaga. So nung nag-la-Love Thy Woman ako hindi ko alam na may inquiry sa akin. I didn’t know na it was for Bagong Umaga. Pero ang tagal so naisip ko ay may bago ng napili. So siyempre na-sad ako kasi for me, basta ABS-CBN walang isang segundo yes ako. Ganun ko kamahal at ganun kalaki utang na loob ko sa ABS-CBN.

“Para sa akin ganun na lang yung confidence ko with ABS-CBN when it comes to taking care of us sa magiging bubble, sa lock-in taping namin, and at the same time, I know that they always give me beautiful roles na talagang hindi ko maaaring tanggihan. So yung regret or pangangamba, kahit nagka-COVID pa ako, kung bukas may offer sa akin ang ABS-CBN, yes ulit (laughs),” she said,.

During their lock-in tapings, Sunshine said she formed a strong bond with the rest of their ensemble cast.

”Meron kasi kaming mga protocols when it comes to hotel so we see to it na sinusunod namin but at the same time meron kaming chance to bond. Pero lagi kaming may chance to be able to bond. Kahit hindi namin off sa taping, kahit na hindi namin take, so may pagkakataon na sa tent namin na nakakapag-bonding at nakakapag-kuwentuhan naman kami.

“Nakakalungkot actually kasi mami-miss ko sila. Kasi parang nadagdagan yung mga anak ko sa set and I treat them like my children as well. Alam ko naman na may potential talaga sila and kapag nararamdaman ko talaga at nagagandahan ako sa ginawa nilang performance, I see it to it na talagang binabati ko sila at pinupuri ko sila. Nakaka-proud kasi sila talaga,” she shared.

Working with a new generation of talents was something Sunshine said she enjoyed doing with her younger co-stars Tony Labrusca, Barbie Imperial, Heaven Peralejo, Yves Flores, Michelle Vito, and Kiko Estrada.

“Siyempre nakakatuwa to be able to be given a chance to be working with sila Tony, Barbie, Heaven, Yves, Michelle, and Kiko. Si Kiko kasi nakatrabaho ko ito meron kaming Stepmother’s Lover na ginawa. Nakatrabaho ko at napakagaling na artista naman talaga aside sa pagka-guwapo. And then yung ibang mga artista na nabanggit ko napakagagaling and napakabit din. They are really professional,” she said.

During the finale presscon, Sunshine also shared appreciation for the community set of their show which was built inside the ABS-CBN compound in Quezon city specifically for their series.

“Nung una ko siyang nakita, nung unang beses akong nagkaroon gn scene nagulat ako. Natuwa ako kasi puwede pala mangyari ito. Imagine may palengke, may mga bahay, may basketball court. So nakakaaliw and ngayon na nagkaroon ng pandemic, ang daming realization na parang puwede pala ganun. Parang mas madali pa for everyone na hindi kailangan paiba-iba ng location, babiyahe pa, mag-iilaw pa, and it will take hours. So parang this time around parang napadali ang sitwasyon ng lahat and at the same time of course, dahil nga may pandemic, mararamdaman mo talaga yung safety mo so mas makaka-focus ka sa acting mo at sa lines mo because you know you are safe and protected,” she added.
