Drag Race Philippines season 1 contestant Marina Summers shared the inspiration behind her latest single, "Divine", during her launch last November 6. The first runner-up revealed that she wanted to open up the music industry to other drag queens in the Philippines.
The music video for her latest single has already reached more than 25,000 views as of this writing.
"There's not a lot of queer music out there specifically drag music, no? We really want to trailblaze that path for the community and divine parang ang concept niya is we want people to worship drag. We want people to worship drag queens and that's the essence of it," she shared.
Marina shared that she had full control of her music when she was discussing this with Tarsier Records. The drag queen added that she felt thankful that she was given the opportunity to handle everything.
"They let me steer the wheel on where I want to take my music and they let me take full control, all the creative process, everything. All the writing was done by me and it transcended to the beats of Moophs, we created magic," she added.
The first runner-up also shifted her focus to creating music aside from her regular drag shows. Marina excitedly hinted that there might be a possibility of an album and a tour in the future.
The 25-year-old drag queen thanked Drag Race Philippines for creating a bigger path for the drag community towards mainstream media. She shared that because of the show, people are talking about drag and LGBTQ+ community.
"The level of respect of people towards drag is even better now and we love to see that grow even more as the years progress. We've been able to spark conversations also about the queer community, about drag community, and SOGIE," she revealed.
Auditions for the second season of Drag Race Philippines have already started. Marina wished the future contestants good luck on their journey.
"I'm very excited to see more local talents in the next season of the franchise," she said.
