After a more than a decade-long hiatus from acting, musician and actor Rico Blanco said he is happy to back in front of the cameras as part of the cast of the new iWantTFC series The Goodbye Girl. Rico’s last series was the kapamilya fantaserye Imortal where he played main villain Lucas Teodoro against John Lloyd Cruz and Angel Locsin.

“It’s good to be back. It’s good to be part of creating a visual and acting. I’m not ashamed talaga to say na all these years I love to act. I think our episode in The Goodbye Girl is a very relatable episode. We’ve somehow all been on either side of both characters Ria and Caio,” he shared during The Goodbye Girl mediacon.

In The Goodbye Girl episode “The Bitter Hopia” with real-life girlfriend Maris Racal, Rico plays the role of a musician named Caio who has a casual relationship with his band member and ends up giving her mixed signals.

“I think kasi yung roles ko dati was iba iba. I think yung role ko sa Imortal medyo mabigat and it had to be mabigat for me to change. For me analogy yun eh kasi nagbago yung pagkatao, kinain talaga ako. So it was very heavy and it’s out of this world yung analogy. But a lot of it is real. Ito, this role is like so real kasi it’s not exaggerated and parang it’s so everyday yung mga situation. But I think deep inside pareho din yung nag-o-operate kasi there’s always a human being serious about living his life in any character I play. That’s how I approach it,” he explained.

Comparing being a musical artist and an actor, Rico revealed why he is passionate about both arts.

“It’s really reading the script, not just reading yung episode namin. Ako I read the whole thing, even the other episodes para magkaroon ako ng context kung seryoso ba ‘to, may konting lightness lang ba o ano ba ‘to? And then of course no matter how you prepare, when I get there I talked to direk Derick (Cabrido). Marami talagang possibilities and that’s why I enjoy the craft. The preparation for me was really just hindi ko alam kung kaya ko pa mag-memorize ng lines kasi matagal na akong hindi nag-memorize (laughs). Sabi ko kahit mga kanta ko hindi ko na memorize. So ayun lang. Madali naman bumalik. It’s just that hindi lang ako sure then pagdating dun masaya pala. Especially in the recent years na mas nag-behind-the-scenes ako sa music video production. Feeling ko na-relax na ako pag nag-ro-roll na yung tape. Dati kasi may konting adrenaline pagka sinabing game na eh. Ngayon dahil naging part heavily ako nung behind-the-scenes, hindi na siya nagpapakaba sa akin,’ he recalled.

Watch Rico Blanco and Maris Racal in “The BItter Hopia” episode of The Goodbye Girl. Produced by Dreamscape Entertainment and Clever Minds Inc., The Goodbye Girl starts streaming on February 14, with a new episode dropping daily on the iWantTFC app (iOS and Android) and website (iwanttfc.com).
