Last Friday, July 15, actor Paulo Avelino was part of the panel who carefully judged and critiqued eight different film pitches at the GoWATCH Film Lab of Globe Prepaid and production company ANIMA.

Joining Paulo in the panel were film directors Mihk Vergara and Sigrid Andrea Bernardo and Kroma Entertainment Officer in Charge for ANIMA Eileen Borromeo.

Among the eight film pitches, only one would be declared winner and have the chance to take home the seed grant of PHP 200,000, a 3-day film immersion set to one of ANIMA’s film shoots, and a script development consultation with a mentor.

A Catholic Schoolgirl pitched by 20-year-old Myra Angeline Soriaso of Iloilo bested everyone who participated in the film pitch and took home with her all the prizes.

Before the announcement of the winner, Paulo shared that he got definitely inspired by their talents and passion for the craft after hearing all the pitches of the eight contestants.

“One of my favorite things is to watch and see new talents being discovered and be honed to be someone [who will] make waves in the industry. It’s really so exciting to see all the pitches,” he shared.

While he got inspired from the young filmmakers, Paulo said he won’t be directing films anytime soon. However, he isn’t closing the doors for it just yet.

“To inspire me as a director, maybe someday, when I see these young people pitch their stories, parang minsan you get to realize that some people deserve a chance more than I do, so I like to see them do it before me, ” he answered.

Paulo recently joined the cast of the Philippine adaptation of Korean drama Flower of Evil. He will be playing the role of Jacob Del Rosario.

Meanwhile, Globe Prepaid and ANIMA invited cinephiles and emerging creatives to sign up and attend the Globe Virtual Hangouts GoWATCH Film Lab master classes with directors Jade Castro, JP Habac, Antoinette Jadaone, and Erik Matti last May.
