‘Inside Out 2,’ ‘Madame Web,’ ‘Lisa Frankestein’ some of the films to look forward to this 2024

As people return to theaters and pay to watch their much-awaited films, here are some upcoming 2024 movies you won't want to miss.

Lisa Frankenstein

Filipino fans and supporters of actress Liza Soberano are getting the best early Valentine’s gift from the actress as her Hollywood debut film, Lisa Frankenstein, is set to be released on February 9.

The coming of ‘rage’ love story set in 1989 will follow the story of an unpopular high school student, Lisa (played by Kathryn Newton), who accidentally revived a handsome Victorian corpse (played by Riverdale’s Cole Sprouse) during a lightning storm. Lisa then starts to rebuild him into the man of her dreams, using a broken tanning bed in her garage.

Meanwhile, the 25-year-old Filipina actress will play Taffy, a cheerleader and Lisa’s step-sister, alongside other Hollywood stars, such as Henry Eikenberry and Joey Harris.

Liza was previously seen as Taffy in the trailer for the film, where she can be seen having a conversation with Kathryn's character inside a car.

Lisa Frankenstein is written by Diablo Cody, directed by Zelda Williams, and produced by Focus Features.

The Fall Guy

Hollywood stars Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt are set to star in an action-comedy film, which highlights the story of a stuntman for an A-list star.

The movie will follow Ryan’s character, Colt Seavers, a seasoned but aging stuntman who suddenly becomes a reluctant investigator as the star of the movie, Tom Ryde (played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson), disappears and dangers the production of Jody Moreno (played by Emily), his ex-girlfriend and director of the film.

As per Vanity Fair, director David Leitch said he wanted to make the movie “absurdly comic, romantic, and gasp-inducing, even as it paid sincere homage to those performers who risk life and limb for the sake of entertainment." 
 

The film is set to be released in theaters in May 2024.

Madame Web 

Dakota Johnson’s Madame Web is sending out her 'webs' through cinemas as it is set to be released in February 2024 under Sony Pictures.

The story will follow the Marvel Comics-based character Cassandra Webb, a paramedic who gains the ability to see the future after an accident and soon discovers that she can also change the future. The time frame for the movie falls on how her life was before she ended up in a wheelchair in the comic version.

Alongside Dakota are stars such as Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, and Celeste O'Connor, as well as Mike Epps, Adam Scott, and Emma Roberts. Actor Tahar Rahim then plays the role of Ezekiel Sims, Madame Web's nemesis and the story's villain. 

Madame Web is distributed in the Philippines by Columbia Pictures Philippines, the local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.

Inside Out 2

Fans of the hit Disney Pixar film Inside Out will also welcome a ‘new emotion’ this 2024 as Riley is about to go through her different feelings as she hits puberty.

In the teaser for the much-anticipated sequel, Joy (voiced by Amy Poehler), the emotion responsible for Riley’s happiness, together with Sadness (voiced by Phyllis Smith); Anger (voiced by Lewis Black); Fear (voiced by Tony Hale) and Disgust (voiced by Liza Lapira) met a frazzled new emotion, named Anxiety (voiced by Stranger Things actress Maya Hawke).

The story will unfold about how Riley’s emotions will accept and get along as she steps into big changes in her life.

The film, directed by Kelsey Mann and written by Meg LeFauve, is set to hit theaters on June 14, 2024, almost nine years after the first film.

Argylle

Dua Lipa’s acting debut with ‘Superman’ Henry Cavill will also dance away in cinemas as it is set to be released in Philippine cinemas on January 31.

Distributed by Universal Pictures Philippines, the upcoming movie also features stars such as Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O'Hara, Ariana DeBose, John Cena, and Samuel L. Jackson.

The star-studded spy action comedy film is directed and produced by Matthew Vaughn, and written by Jason Fuchs.

Based on the film's synopsis, the film will follow the story of Elly Conway, a shy novelist who rarely leaves her home. One day, she discovers that the plots of her spy novels are becoming a reality when she's unwittingly targeted by a dangerous underground syndicate. To her surprise, Aiden, an undercover spy, shows up to save her from being kidnapped or worse. Together with her beloved cat Alfie, Elly is thrown into a world of espionage where nothing is what it seems.

Dune: Part Two

The award-winning and second part of Denis Villeneuve’s box-office film, Dune, is finally gracing the theaters as it is set to be released in 2024, a date much later than its original screening due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike at that time.

The film sequel, based on the 1965 epic science fiction novel by American author Frank Herbert, stars Hollywood actors and actresses such as Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Dave Bautista, Christopher Walken, Stephen McKinley Henderson, and Léa Seydoux. 

As per reports, “Dune: Part Two” will explore the mythic journey of Timothée's Paul Atreides, who will have to choose the love of his life and the fate of the known universe as he reunites with Zendaya’s Chani and the Fremen while on a grudge of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. 

Distributed in the Philippines by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Discovery company, the film is set to be released in local theaters on February 28, 2024.
