Veteran actors Dolly de Leon and Vilma Santos were among the list of awardees for the Film Development Council of the Philippines’ (FDCP) Parangal ng Sining which was held last Sunday, April 23. They were recognized by the FDCP for their contributions to Philippine cinema both locally and internationally.

Dolly received the Annual Achievement Award alongside veteran actor Soliman Cruz and Leonor Will Never Die filmmaker Martika Escobar. On the other hand, the Lifetime Achievement Awards were conferred to Vilma, Nick Deocampo, Lily Monteverde, and Cinemalaya (represented by Laurice Guillen).

The Golden Globe nominee became emotional during her acceptance speech. Dolly shared how grateful she was to be recognized by the FDCP for the various feats she has done within the past year such as her performance in the award-winning film, Triangle of Sadness.

“Hindi talaga kami sanay sa atensyon, pero it doesn’t mean I’m not grateful… I just feel so honored to be alongside Sol and Martika and the people I’ve admired in my whole life, sitting at the same table as me. Mind-blowing po lahat para sa akin, hindi po ako makapaniwala,” she said.

In her speech, Dolly recalled how she wanted to become an actress while she was sewing the costumes of her classmates in UP. She continued to thank the people who believed in her during the difficult times in her life.

Meanwhile, the Star for All Seasons revealed how speechless she was as she received her award. Vilma shared how indebted she was towards the showbiz industry as she wouldn’t be the artist she is today without the people helping her behind the scenes.

“I’m proud to say anim na dekada na po ako sa industriya na ito… Sa inyo pong lahat, sa 60 years, halos lahat po [ng] nandito ay pinagkakautangan ko ng loob––kung bakit ako nagtagal ng ganito katagal sa industryiang ito. From the bottom of my heart, maraming salamat po,” Vilma shared.
