Vertical Horizon’s lead vocalist, Max Scannell sat down with the press for their upcoming concert this July 18 at SM Sky Dome.

Vertical Horizon is best known by Filipinos for some of their classic hits like, “Everything You want”, “Finding Me”, and their most loved song, “Best I Ever Had.”

Max went on to share the inspiration behind the song, which is as bittersweet as the lyrics. He said, “I almost always start trying to fix places inside myself that are kind of broken and ‘Best I Ever Had’ was a song about a woman I was totally in love with, but at the same time we kind of both knew it wasn’t going to work.”

However, for Max there’s beauty in endings, even if the relationship ended, it’s okay. He further explained, “Sometimes in life you meet someone and it’s incredible. You can be together for long periods of time, then there are some times you meet someone when you’re just crossed for a moment and then you go on your way, and there’s beauty to that actually. Knowing in the moment that it isn’t something that will last forever, almost makes it more special.”

MAX revealed that there’s more in store for the band because they are planning to release new music, but the details regarding that have yet to be announced. When asked if they want to collaborate with Filipino artists, Max confirmed that they would absolutely do that. He said, “I would want to approach it like any collaboration. I would want to listen to music from that artist. I want to make sure that it resonates for me and feels like I could bring something to the table, but I also want to feel inspired by their music.”

The last time Vertical Horizon performed in Manila was in 2014 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater at Resorts World Manila.
