MANILA – Mark your calendars as Kenneth Cobonpue releases his much awaited “Star Wars” furniture collection next week.

In an interview on ANC’s “Headstart” on Friday, Cobonpue said the collection consists of “three chairs, a stool, and a light,” and will be available in the Philippines starting October 10.

“It’s all done. We’ll be launching it on Wednesday in our store, on October 10,” he said.

“For now it’s only available in the Philippines,” added the internationally renowned designer, who has showrooms in Manila and Cebu. “Our license is only for the Philippines. Right now we have a lot of people from all over the world who want to see it, so they have to get it through a Filipino.”

Cobonpue’s “Star Wars” furniture collection was first unveiled at the Asia Pop Comic Con 2018 event in Pasay City last August.

“Disney asked me a year ago to do a line with them for ‘Star Wars,’” he shared. “We were going to do it before ‘Solo’ (‘Star Wars’ movie). So when they asked me, I said, ‘You don’t need me to make replicas of spaceships, there are a lot of people in the world doing that.’”

“But they said, ‘No, we want you to interpret ‘Star Wars’ through the lens of a Filipino designer.’ So it’s the first [‘Star Wars’] co-branded product in furniture in Southeast Asia.”
