Duterte: No 'cover-up' in Enrile's pork barrel cases

CEBU – President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday said it would be impossible to do a “cover-up” in the pork barrel-related cases of former Senator Juan Ponce Enrile.

Duterte said this following his "social" meeting with the veteran politician in Malacañang on Thursday.

In an ambush interview, Duterte did not give a direct answer when asked if he will help Enrile in his cases, only saying, “Hindi pwedeng i-cover up, cover up yan.” (That cannot be covered up).

Duterte added, he discussed national security issues with Enrile.

The meeting came a few months before Enrile's scheduled pre-trial for graft. He is accused of misusing his "pork barrel" or discretionary funds.

The defense and the prosecution panels have been given until May to hold preliminary conferences before the pre-trial begins on June 26.

Enrile is currently out on bail.
