MANILA -- The Department of Transportation said Friday it added more routes and vehicles to ferry health workers in Metro Manila who are battling the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic while the entire Luzon is under lockdown.

Some health workers earlier this week were forced to walk to and from hospitals because modes of public transport were shut for the lockdown, set until April 12.

DOTR's free shuttle service, which started Tuesday with 3 routes, could now serve 13 routes with 74 vehicles, said the agency.

Buses will transport passengers to and from the following designated routes at 5 a.m., 7 a.m., 1 p.m. 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., the DOTr said on Facebook.

The free ride is open for doctors, nurses, hospital administration personnel, utility workers, security officers, and other health workers like pharmacists and caregivers, said the DOTR.

The bus service will observe social distancing, body temperature checks, and regular disinfection, the agency added.

The DOTR said following companies helped various government agencies with the shuttle project: HM Transport, San Agustin, MetroExpress, RRCG, Precious Grace, Ceres, Jac Liner, St. Rose, Pamana, Jasper Jean, Pascual, Hi-Star, Ube Express, Hafti Transport, G-Liner, Thelman Transit, and Foton.
