CHED pushes 'blended' online, offline learning post-lockdown

MANILA -- The Commission on Higher Education on Monday recommended "blended" online and classroom learning as a precaution against COVID-19 should classes resume in August.

Students without internet access may physically attend classes while online learning can be given to those with full internet connection, CHED Chairman Prospero De Vera said.

“'Yong old mode na babalik kayong lahat sa classroom, magle-lecture, hindi na puwede ‘yan,” De Vera told DZMM.

(The old mode where all students are in a classroom will not be allowed.)

The CHED is planning scenarios for next semester depending on the duration of the Luzon lockdown, which has been ongoing for a month and is scheduled to last until April 30, he said.

Universities are required to prepare protocols to ensure the safety of students, faculty members and employees from COVID-19, he said.

De Vera said CHED would help train professors on flexible learning so they could adjust their syllabi before August.
