Virac, Catanduanes heat index reaches 52.2 degrees Celsius

MANILA - The state weather bureau on Wednesday recorded the highest heat index so far this year in Virac, Catanduanes at 52.2 degrees Celsius.

This surpassed the 51.7 degrees Celsius heat index recorded in Dagupan City, Pangasinan on April 9.

The high heat index, or the apparent temperature felt by a person, fell under the "danger" category, which may cause cramps, heat exhaustion and probable heat stroke.

Among those with the highest humiture are Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro (46.4 degrees Celsius); Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte (44.9 degrees Celsius); Surigao City, Surigao del Norte (43.8 degrees Celsius); Roxas City, Capiz (43.6 degrees Celsius); and San Jose City, Occidental Mindoro (43.2 degrees Celsius).

In its 4 p.m. advisory, PAGASA said the frontal system will bring cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms to Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.

Visayas and Mindanao will, meanwhile, experience isolated rainshowers caused by localized thunderstorms.
