MANILA - Policemen were told not to use vehicles seized during anti-illegal drugs operations after an operative assigned in Pasig City was caught using a motorcycle tagged as evidence from a drug suspect.

Philippine National Police chief Archie Gamboa on Thursday reiterated that it is unlawful to use recovered-stolen or impounded vehicles.

Gamboa issued the warning after the Integrated Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG) arrested Corporal Stephen Mark Pandi, assigned at the Station Drug Enforcement Unit at the Pasig City Police Station, and his backrider Mary Grace David in Barangay Santolan on Wednesday.

IMEG said the motorcycle used by Pandi is owned by a drug suspect and seized during an anti-illegal drugs operation last year.

Aside from criminal and administrative charges against Pandi, his immediate superior will also face an investigation because of command responsibility.

The PNP has meted penalties to 3,167 police personnel for various administrative charges. - Report from Zhander Cayabyab, ABS-CBN News
