CEBU CITY - Mayor Tomas Osmeña cried foul over the mandate of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7) to take photos and launch background checks on police officers in active service who will visit the wake of controversial cop, SPO1 Adonis Dumpit.

Despite his protest, the mayor is still willing to be subjected to the same procedure, saying he is not afraid if authorities decide to include him in a possible probe to establish his link to Dumpit.

Dumpit had served as Osmeña’s police bodyguard.

The local chief executive was once tagged by former Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre in the illegal drug trade but authorities, under the leadership of former PNP chief Ronald Dela Rosa, did not confirm the allegations against Osmeña.

Dumpit was shot dead in an operation conducted by the National Bureau of Investigation and Regional Intelligence Division last June 27 at Barangay San Isidro, Tagbilaran City, Bohol.

NBI Bohol director Renan Oliva said Dumpit had been monitored due to complaints that the slain cop is a drug protector.

PRO-7 Director Debold Sinas also said Dumpit would not be accorded police honors during his internment.

Osmeña is not keen on giving a posthumous award to Dumpit, saying that a formal recognition is unnecessary since the public knows the contribution of the police officer in the PNP.

Dumpit is scheduled to be buried on Wednesday.
