PNPA cadet dies due to heat stroke

MANILA - A cadet of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) died allegedly due to heat stroke Wednesday, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.

In a statement released Thursday, PNP said Cadet Fourth Class Kenneth Ross Alvarado suddenly collapsed while participating in evening mess formation at 5:30 p.m. on July 8.

A co-cadet brought Alvarado to the Academy Health Service. He was referred to a hospital in Sta. Rosa City in Laguna due to difficulty of breathing. Alvarado's mother also went to the hospital upon learning about the incident.

“The cadet was in the hospital at about 6:05 p.m. and appropriate medical intervention was immediately given to the patient cadet unfortunately, he didn't make it and was declared dead at 9:56 p.m.,” the PNPA report said.

PNP chief Police General Archie Gamboa expressed his condolences to the the parents and relatives of Alvarado, whose father is also a member of PNPA Tagapagpatupad Class of 1992.

Gamboa has ordered an investigation into the incident.

The current PNP class has 306 new cadets, composed of 254 males and 52 females. They had their reception rites last July 3.
