LA UNION – A Canadian national who was allegedly involved in illegal drugs was shot dead by still unidentified gunmen inside his house in Barangay Taboc, San Juan in La Union Wednesday night.

The victim, identified as Niranjan Sachchithanantham, alias Max, was on a drinking spree when the incident occurred.

“May boat siya. Dumaan siya sa may tabing-dagat. Inararo niya 'yong fish net. Bumili siya ng boat at motor, ang bayad daw no'n, P35,000. Pero P25,000 lang ang ibinayad niya," Barangay Captain Teofilo Cabiladas said, referring to some actions committed by Max that became subjects of complaints.

Initial investigation reveals that four shells of caliber .45 were recovered in the crime scene.

His drinking companion sustained a gunshot wound on his arm and was immediately rushed to the hospital.

San Juan Municipal Police Station revealed Max has pending cases, including malicious mischief and threat in 2014, violation of Republic Act 7610 for slapping a minor, and alarm and scandal this year.

"Tinitignan natin 'yong anggulo na may kaaway previously. At saka watchlist din," Police Inspector Juan Casem Jr., Deputy Chief of Police in San Juan said.

(We will look into potential enemies of the victim. And also whether he is on the watchlist.)
