MANILA -- The Binay family will meet to prevent siblings from running against each other, the eldest of former Vice President Jejomar Binay's children said Thursday.

Makati Mayor Abi Binay and former Mayor Jejomar "Junjun" Binay Jr. are reportedly headed for a tug-of-war for the top post in the city that hosts one of the country's main financial districts.

"Pag-uusapan pa namin para hindi umabot sa ganoong scenario," Senator Nancy Binay, who is seeking reelection, told reporters.

(We will meet so that it will not come to that scenario.)

Pressed by a reporter, Sen. Binay said 2 Binay siblings running for the Senate in 2019 was unlikely but could be an "option."

"Siguro masikip na yung ganung scenario for the Senate, may JV [Ejercito], Jinggoy [Estrada] na so tingnan natin, malay mo nga option din yun," she said, referring Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada’s sons who are expected to both run for senator.

The Binay family might come up with a "clearer direction" by next week, she said.

"At the end of the day, kung ano man yung maging resulta pagkatapos ng May 13, 2019 elections, magkakapamilya pa rin kami," she said.

(At the end of the day, whatever is the result of the May 13, 2019 elections, we are still family.)
