Dormitorio family files raps vs ex-PMA superintendent, commandant

Two former Philippine Military Academy (PMA) officials are now included in the complaint filed by the family of Cadet 4th Class Darwin Dormitorio in relation to his death.

Dexter Dormitorio on Monday filed the complaint against former PMA superintendent Lt.Gen. Ronnie Evangelista and commandant of cadets Brig. Gen. Bartolome Vicente Bacarro.

Both are accused as accomplices in violating the Anti-Hazing Law, principals in violating the Anti-Torture Law, and dereliction of duty as defined by Article 208 of the Revised Penal Code.

The Dormitorio camp said the complaint is based on the case filed by the National Bureau of Investigation on Oct. 24, 2019.

The Dormitorios also said they have established a paper trail showing inaction on the part of the two ex-PMA officials even though they were already informed of the maltreatment that Cadet Dormitorio went through in August.

The current PMA administration refused to comment because the two officials involved have already resigned from their posts.

Evangelista, on the other hand, said he was not yet informed about his inclusion in the complaint but said he will just let the wheels of justice find its course.

Dormitorio, 20, died Sept. 18 after taking beatings from his upperclassmen. He was hospitalized twice in the month leading to his death and had bruises on his stomach consistent with hazing.

Police investigation also revealed that an improvised stun gun was used to electrocute the cadet.
