Storm Ramon keeps strength, as it moves closer to Luzon

MANILA (UPDATE)—Tropical storm Ramon maintained its strength as it moved closer to Luzon early Thursday, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

The tropical cyclone was last seen 355 kilometers east of Legazpi City, Albay as of 4 a.m., packing 65 kilometers per hour (kph) winds and 80 kph gusts.

Moving west-northwest at a speed of 10 kph, Ramon is expected to hit land in the Cagayan-Isabela area Saturday, weather specialist Ana Clauren said.

Tropical cyclone wind signal (TCWS) No. 2 remains hoisted over Catanduanes while signal No. 1 is raised over Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Eastern Samar and Northern Samar.

PAGASA said signal No. 1 could also be raised over Polillo Islands, Northern Aurora and Eastern Isabela.

Light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains will be experienced over Bicol Region and the eastern portions of Isabela and Cagayan today.

On Friday, light to moderate with occasional heavy rains may be experienced over the eastern portion of Cagayan and Isabela.

Apayao, Quirino, Northern Aurora and the rest of Cagayan and Isabela will have light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains.

Classes in several provinces were suspended on Thursday due to the effects of Ramon.
