MANILA - (UPDATE) Typhoon Tomas (international name Man-yi) entered the Philippine area of responsibility on Friday night (PAR), state weather bureau PAGASA said.

PAGASA said Tomas entered PAR at 8 p.m., but it is not expected to hit land based on its latest forecast track.

In its latest bulletin at 5 a.m. Saturday, Tomas was located some 1,400 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.

Tomas maintained its strength, packing sustained maximum winds of up to 145 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 180 kph. It is moving north at a speed of 15 kph.

PAGASA said Tomas has no direct effect to the country yet, but might stay within PAR for several days.

The weather disturbance is expected to leave the country on Wednesday, Nov. 28.

Fishermen and those with small boats were advised not to venture out over the northern and western seaboards of northern Luzon due to rough seas.
