At least eight people were killed as super typhoon Pepito hit the Philippines over the weekend, unleashing fierce winds and strong rains that triggered landslides and storm surges, authorities said.

On Monday, residents found themselves cleaning up their properties and doing repairs as many of the homes suffered extensive damage.

The local government has appealed for aid to help the affected residents rebuild their homes.

Pepito was the sixth storm to hit the country in a span of one month. On average, about 20 tropical storms strike the Philippines each year, bringing heavy rain, strong winds, flooding, and landslides.
