MALAYSIA — Vice President Sara Duterte on Monday refused to comment on the proposal by her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, to separate Mindanao from the rest of the country.
“I have no comment on that,” she said when asked by reporters in Malaysia if she would support the said proposal.
Former President Rodrigo Duterte had led the call to separate Mindanao, as he also expressed his opposition to the people’s initiative to amend the Constitution.
He also instructed Davao del Norte Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez to lead the campaign for that purpose.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., however, thumbed down the proposal saying, “it is doomed to fail for it is anchored on a false premise” and that it is a “sheer Constitutional travesty”.
"I strongly appeal to all concerned to stop this call for a separate Mindanao," Marcos Jr. said in during the recent “Constitution Day" in Makati City.
