MANILA — The National Food Authority is confident its current buffer stock is enough for the rainy season, with administrator Larry Lacson explaining Wednesday that more stocks are coming in than being dispensed to various markets.

“Mas marami pa rin ang pumapasok na palay sa ating mga bodega kaysa sa bigas na lumalabas. Kaya sa ngayon nga, ang ating buffer stock ay nasa 11.5 days na,” Lacson said in an interview with state-run media PTV.

“Ang ating buffer stock is very healthy at pati iyong main function natin na sa calamities and emergencies wala po tayong pangambahan, kahit ho magka-bagyo marami po tayong stock na puwedeng itulong, kung saan na puwedeng kumuha sa atin ang DSWD or ang [Office of] Civil Defense na mga pang-relief na bigas nakahanda po tayo diyan,” he added.

The NFA chief also assured that the current buffer stock is enough to sustain government programs, such as P20 per kilo rice for vulnerable sector intended until the end of Marcos administration in 2028.

Lacson expects the country’s buffer stock to increase further with the incoming harvest season as they continuously rehabilitate warehouses across the country.
