MANILA – Coach Roger Gorayeb is tempering expectations after the Capital1 Solar Spikers garnered their breakthrough win in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference.
At the start of the conference, Gorayeb said he wanted the Solar Spikers to develop the passion to win. Now that his team has captured its first franchise victory, what's next for the Solar Spikers?
The legendary coach said they still have a long way to go.

"Sabi nga nila, Rome is not built overnight. Kaunting tiyaga lang. Kasi they look at us individually, ako yung coach, player mo si ganito, player mo si ganyan, but collectively, mahirap eh. Dahan-dahan kaming learning process," said Gorayeb after beating fellow league newcomers Strong Group Athletics, 25-18, 25-20, 19-25, 25-20 on Tuesday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

"Kahit may experience na sila, they still have to learn every day," Gorayeb said, referring to his players. "Itong ganitong panalo, medyo masarap-sarap matulog, masarap mag-ensayo bukas."

"Kasi kung makikita mo naman, hirap na hirap parin kami, magmula sa setter hanggang sa libero... 'Yung sistema ko kasi bago sa paningin nila, eh. Bago sa pakiramdam nila, na hirap na hirap pa sila mag-adjust."

Despite "lapses" in their gameplay, Gorayeb remains hopeful in Capital1, which seeks to make an impact in the pro league.

"'Wag naman abutin nang isang taon bago namin makilala isa’t isa. Sabi ko nga, every day is a learning process for us. Every day, kailangan matuto kami. I learn from them, they learn from me, nang sama-sama."
