Privacy body says can't guarantee hunt for Jim Paredes video source

The National Privacy Commission on Thursday said it cannot assure that it would be able to trace the source of a leaked private video of singer-composer Jim Paredes.

"Iyang bagay na iyan ay hindi pa natin masisiguro," said NPC Chairman Raymund Liboro.

(We cannot assure that yet.)

Paredes instead can coordinate with social media platforms and invoke his right to have the video blocked or erased.

"Bawat isa atin ay may karapatan na kung ang isang pagpoproseso ng personal data, kabilang d'yan ang video, ay nakakasama, nakakasirang puri sa iyo, walang ibang benepisyo para sa kanino man, karapatan mong ipa-block ito, ipabura ito," he said

(Each of us have a right to block or erase the processing of our personal data, including videos, if these harm, destroy our reputation and does not benefit anyone.)

Paredes has confirmed the authenticity of the video but said it was not meant for public consumption.

The 67-year-old musician, known for being a vocal critic of the current administration, suspects the incident as politically-motivated.
