A newborn spectacled bear has sparked conservation hopes on the northern coast of Peru when members of a private ecological reserve discovered their first breeding of species in around six years.

Staff of the Chaparri Ecological Reserve, in Lambayeque, recently found a spectacled bear cub that had been born a couple of months ago, after its mother, Lola, disappeared in June. Caretakers believe she retreated to give birth.

The spectacled bear or Andean bear is listed as 'Vulnerable' by the International Union for Conservation of Nature(IUCN). It’s the only living species of bear native to South America. - Report from Reuters
