MANILA — The Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) on Monday assured its customers of uninterrupted electricity service during this year's Holy Week.

Demand for electricity historically goes up in the hotter months of the year, with supply also decreasing because of the dry weather's effects on hydroelectric power plants as well as because of maintenance shutdowns at some plants.

The Department of Energy has said that the Luzon grid could see "Yellow Alerts" — when reserves are not enough and outages are possible — in the coming months.

Meralco said that while its business centers will be closed from Maundy Thursday to Black Saturday, its personnel are ready round the clock to ensure continuous power service during this period.

- • Unplug unused appliances, "especially when going away for several days"
• Refrain from using "octopus connections" — or plugging in extension cords into a single outlet — because this could overheat and result in fire
• Do not place electrical cords under rugs or carpets - • Properly organize or store wires and cords
• Power devices should be far from water sources like showers and sinks
