MANILA -- Beauty queen maker Jonas Gaffud took to Instagram on Sunday to reveal that his father has passed away.

"My Dad died today at 3:09 p.m.," Gaffud said, not giving further details about the cause of his father's passing, instead taking the opportunity to thank the medical staff at Veterans Memorial Hospital as well those who served as blood donors.

"We never got to see him on his deathbed," he added. "When I grew up, I thought I never had a good relationship with my Dad. I hated him when I was young. He was a strict military father. I thought he was a burden. But as I grew older, I learned to appreciate him, his sacrifices and he tells me all the time how much he loves me and misses me. Now I know he is a blessing."

Gaffud went on to thank his late father "for the gift of life" as he cited a quote from the movie "Love Wedding Repeat."

He also promised "to take care of your queen, my Mom, your one and only love, Francisca Antonio Gaffud."

In another Instagram post, Gaffud described his late father as a soldier and a farmer who served his family and country.

"In this time of pandemic, there is no 21 gun salute for a retired soldier. But if he were younger, he would have been a frontliner. I know that my salute is the best gift I can honor him with. I was hesitant to go to the hospital because of COVID-19. But in this time of chaos and loss, there is nothing braver than to bury a loved one. I love you forever, Dad," he said.

Gaffud did not mention the name of his father in his posts, but the entertainment website Pep reported that his name is Juan Gaffud and that he was 73 years old when he died.

Currently the creative director of the Miss Universe Philippines organization, Gaffud is known for mentoring the likes of Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, Miss International 2016 Kylie Verzosa, and Miss World 2013 Megan Young.

The three pageant titleholders appear on the cover of his book, "The Crown: Your Essential Guide To Becoming A Beauty Queen."
