Makabagong konsepto ng bahay kubo, wagi sa int'l competition

Nanalo ng grand prize sa isang international competition ang housing solution ng 23 anyos na Pinoy engineer kung saan ang disenyo niya ay hango sa iconic bahay kubo.

Namayagpag ang konseptong "Cubo" ni Earl Forlales sa 1,200 iba pang kalahok sa Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors’ (RICS) Cities for our Future competition.

Gawa ang Cubo sa pre-fabricated at treated bamboo panels na hindi mawawasak sa sunog o sa bagyo, at kaya umanong tumagal nang 50 taon.

Bubuuin bilang parte ng isang komunidad ang "Cubo" at lalagyan ng mga communal na kusina at paliguan para sa mga magkakapitbahay. Aabutin lamang ng P50,000 ang gagastusin kada 12 square meter unit para sa dalawang tao.

Sustainable din umano ang disenyo dahil puwedeng ipunin ang tubig-ulan at ibang waste material para gawing renewable energy.

Ani Forlales, nagsilbing inspirasyon ang pagtira ng kaniyang lolo at lola sa bahay kubo.

"My grandparents lived in a small bahay kubo... Bata pa lang alam ko na there is good potential for material for construction and good quality housing," ani Forlales, na isang materials engineer.

Giit ni Forlales, magsisilbing "murang" alternatibo ang kaniyang disenyo.

"With the government’s Build Build Build program there will be more construction workers coming into the city... We want our workers who are producing our high-rise multi-storey level buildings to have dignified housing of their own," aniya.

Makatatanggap ng cash prize na £50,000 (higit P3 million) si Forlales sa Lunes, na gagamitin niya sa pagbuo ng prototype at model unit na manghihikayat ng mga magpupuhunan sa kaniyang konsepto.

Plano niyang makapagtayo ng 10,000 unit pagdating ng 2023.
