MANILA - The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said it is deploying over 2,000 personnel to ensure the safe and smooth flow of traffic this Holy Wednesday.

A total of 2,274 personnel from MMDA were deployed to manage traffic and assist in road emergencies. This includes medics and sidewalk clearing personnel, according to MMDA Traffic Enforcement Group Director Atty Victor Nunez.

"Lahat ng may malalaking terminals may mga MMDA po kami doon, tumutulong sa mga pasahero para mabilis din iyong pagbaba ng mga bagahe nila from the vehicles especially sa mga taxi para hindi po magkaroon ng matinding obstruction sa mga tapat ng malalaking provincial bus terminals,” Nunez said.

(We have MMDAs in major terminals, helping passengers to quickly unload their luggage from the vehicles, especially taxis, so that there is no severe obstruction in front of the large provincial bus terminals.)

Nunez says there will also be buses on standby to assist commuters who may be stranded, especially in the afternoon. He said the MMDA deployed several vehicles along the LRT-1 route as the railway suspended operations for its annual preventive maintenance.

“So iyon po ang pini-prepare namin na contingency plan especially doon sa linya ng LRT 1 pati na rin ho dito sa EDSA kapag nakita naming maraming pasaherong mga stranded, magpapalabas ho kami ng mga buses,” he said.

(So that's the contingency plan we're preparing especially on the LRT 1 line as well as here on EDSA. When we see many stranded passengers there, then we'll send buses out to assist.)

MMDA personnel will also be deployed to major Churches in Metro Manila to ensure that there will be no obstruction of traffic, the official said. As devotees go on the traditional Visita Iglesia on Thursday, MMDA personnel will ensure that vehicles are properly parked near the churches.

“So we have to make sure na maluwag pa rin ang daloy ng trapiko at maayos ang pagkaka-park nito especially along the vicinity ng mga simbahan,” he said.

(So we have to make sure that the flow of traffic is still free and that vehicles are parked properly, especially along the vicinity of the churches)

Meanwhile, according to the MMDA, at least 47 road repairs are expected to begin at 11 p.m. Wednesday, particularly along EDSA, Commonwealth Avenue, Mindanao Ave., Roxas Boulevard, and Quirino Avenue.
