NHA OKs 1-month moratorium on payments in Carina-hit areas

MANILA — The National Housing Authority (NHA) announced Tuesday a one-month moratorium on the payment of amortization for victims of typhoon Carina for July.

“Sa bigat na idinulot ng Carina at ng habagat ay talagang nangangailangan ng pag-ayuda, pagtulong at pagkalinga ang lahat ng maliliit nating kababayan sa mga resettlement sites," NHA assistant general manager Alvin Feliciano said in a televised briefing. 

"Kaya minabuti po ni GM Joeben Tai, sa gabay po ni Secretary Acuzar ng DHSUD, na magbigay po kami ng one-month moratorium. Ito po ay magsisimula sa July hanggang sa katapusang ito,” he added.

“At the same time, hindi lang po iyon iyong magandang balita – iyong moratorium po, iyong interest po from July to December, wala na pong interest, kung magkakautang ka ay hindi na po magkakaroon ng interest.”

The moratorium covers the hardest hit areas of NCR, Region III and Region IV-A, Feliciano said.

“Hindi na po nila kailangang mag-abala o magsadya sa aming mga opisina. Automatic kapag ikaw po ay taga-NCR, Region III, Region IV-A, ikaw po ay kasali o kabilang sa mga mabibigyan ng moratorium sa pagbabayad ng iyong mga unit,” he said.

Thirty-nine people have reportedly died due to the combined effects of the habagat, and typhoons Carina and Butchoy, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported Tuesday.
