MANILA — The Philippines dengue case fatality rate remained at 0.4 percent or about 4 deaths in every 1,000 cases, the Department of Health (DOH) said on Monday.

This, as the Philippines pushes for zero deaths due to dengue, after the country saw a spike in cases in the previous year.

"Ang pagdami ng kaso ng dengue ay puwede nating bagalan pero iyong pagdami ng namamatay or iyong bilang ng namamatay ay puwede nating wakasan," DOH Spokesperson Albert Domingo told state television PTV.

"Una sa lahat, kapag mas kaunti ang nagiging kaso ng dengue eh ‘di mas kaunti rin iyong pagkakataon na may namamatay," he said.

"Ngayon kasi mababa na… pero gusto nga natin na zero," he said.

From January to March 2025, the Philippines recorded 62,313 dengue cases, which is 73 percent higher compared to the same period in 2024.

The regions with the most number of cases are Calabarzon with 12,735 cases; National Capital Region with 11,291; and Central Luzon with 10,185.

In that period, the case fatality rate was at 0.35 percent compared to 0.42 percent logged in 2024, according to data from the DOH.

The DOH has been reminding the public to immediately consult a doctor once symptoms of the mosquito-borne disease are spotted, underscoring that most of the patients who die from dengue were not given immediate treatment.

Meanwhile, Domingo clarified that the restructuring of the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) will not disrupt services extended by the agency.
