MANILA — Adamson University and Mapua University have made it to the QS World University Rankings for 2026, with Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the US leading the 1,500 schools in the list.

The two Philippine universities were among the 112 new institutions that made their debut in the 2026 rankings.

Adamson University was listed in the 1,001–1,200 bracket, while Mapua University was placed at 1,401+ ranking.

"This recognition is not so much a badge of honor as a humble validation of the hard work and collective effort of our faculty, staff, students, and alumni... To be included in the QS World Rankings leads us to be more resolved to make Adamson contribute more to global education," Adamson University president Fr. Daniel Franklin Pilario said in a statement posted on their Facebook.

"This milestone is a powerful testament to our unwavering commitment to global excellence in education," Mapua said in its Facebook page.

6 PH UNIVERSITIES IN THE LIST

Leading the pack for the Philippines was University of the Philippines, ranked 362 for this year's list, a slip from its 336 ranking last year.

Ateneo de Manila University meanwhile ranked 511, a slight bump from its previous 516 place.

De La Salle University was ranked 654 this year, while University of Sto. Tomas was listed at the 851-900 bracket.

RISE OF ASIA

QS noted that there was a "steady rise" among Asian institutions in this year's list.

"A clear trend in the rankings this year is the steady rise of institutions in Asia, both in terms of numbers and upward trajectory... Previously, this upward movement in the region has been driven in large part by the research indicators, however Asian universities are increasingly challenging Western institutions in the international student market," QS Magazine said.

The 2026 list was still dominated by universities from the west, with the top 10 as follows:

  1. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
  2. Imperial College London
  3. Stanford University
  4. University of Oxford
  5. Harvard University
  6. University of Cambridge
  7. ETH Zurich (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology)
  8. National University of Singapore (NUS)
  9. UCL (University College London)
  10. California Institute of Technology (Caltech)

QS said the past two years saw an "increased instability in international student flows around the world arising from policy changes in some of the biggest destinations."

"In the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada in particular, a toughening stance on international student numbers and/or visa restrictions has led to disruption to universities’ ability to attract the numbers of international candidates they have been used to," it noted.
