MANILA - A party-list lawmaker on Wednesday said filing impeachment charges against 8 justices who voted to oust Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno will shed light on how the Supreme Court arrived at its decision.

"In the Supreme Court, they are just confined in the chambers. People don't know how they decided, what was really discussed. In the impeachment, it is important to give the people a full disclosure on what really transpired," Akbayan party-list Rep. Tom Villarin told ANC.

He said the impeachment complaint will also be considered by the Judicial and Bar Council in case some of the 8 justices who voted for Sereno's ouster decide to apply for the chief justice position.

Villarin and other opposition lawmakers are seeking the impeachment of associate justices Teresita Leonardo-de Castro, Diosdado Peralta, Lucas Bersamin, Francis Jardeleza, Samuel Martires, Noel Tijam, Andres Reyes Jr., and Alexander Gesmundo.

Aside from voting to grant the quo warranto petition filed by Solicitor General Jose Calida on May 11, these magistrates also voted on Tuesday to dismiss, with finality, the motion for reconsideration filed by the ousted Sereno.
