MANILA – “How do you just know?”

This was the question running through Matteo Guidicelli’s mind before he asked Sarah Geronimo to marry him.

While he always knew he wanted to be with Geronimo for the rest of his life, Guidicelli admitted in an interview with Catholic lay preacher and minister Bo Sanchez that he didn’t know the right time to propose.

“Before I got married, I would always ask people, ‘How do you know when the time is right to propose? How do you know?’ They would always tell me, ‘Matteo you would just know.’ A year ago or a few years ago, sabi ko, ‘Okay you will just know. You will just know,’” he shared.

Although he loves Geronimo, Guidicelli said he was looking for that “just know” for quite a while.

“We were together for six years. Sabi ko I really love this girl. I want to be with her for the rest of my life but siyempre there were still doubts in my heart na how do you take this leap of faith? I’m gonna be separated from my family. I’m not gonna be with them anymore. I will start my own family. I want to do that but did I have the courage to do that?” he said.

This was his thinking until the unexplainable feeling of certainty just came to him one day.

“I just knew. I don’t understand why. I always knew [that I want to be with her], that’s why our relationship lasted for six years with all the challenges. But there was this day where I just knew [I wanted to marry her],” he said.

Guidicelli said that was only the time he took more steps to plan his proposal.

“It just hit me. Is that God working? Maybe,” he quipped.

Guidicelli and Geronimo secretly tied the knot last February 20.

Four months into their marriage, Guidicelli said he and Geronimo are living the best days of their lives.
