If you were a Filipino kid who grew up loving music, chances are MYX was part of your life—just like it was for Samantha Alvero, better known as VJ Samm (with two m's!). After being a devoted viewer of the MYX Daily Top 10, Samm has now spent seven years introducing OPM and pop culture to viewers nationwide through the iconic music channel.

She recalls her childhood home, where MYX played incessantly, and remarked, "It was always on." What started off as background noise quickly evolved into the theme music for her future. "I discovered Sandwich, Mayonnaise—so many of my favorite bands through MYX," Samm told Metro.Style.

It wasn't always her intention to host. Samm chuckled, "I joined the MYX VJ Search on a whim." She went for it because she was close to graduating and wasn't sure what to do next. But her passion for music and early internet-era charisma from Tumblr and Multiply were very much present despite her lack of hosting expertise at the time.

Samm was not a host before MYX. She remembered, "It was baptism by fire." She picked up things fast by watching VJs Robi Domingo, Ai dela Cruz, Heart Evangelista, and Luis Manzano—some of whom went on to become her mentors. “VJ Robi performing one-take spiels? That really blew my head,” she mentioned.

She believes that hosting can only be learned, not fully taught. "You learn by doing. That's the beautiful (and sometimes scary) part of it," Samm shared.

As the "ate" of the MYX VJ team now, Samm embraces her mentorship position. “It was lonely sometimes, being the only one,” she admitted. “Having a team again—it’s like breathing new air.” She flourishes when she is surrounded by fresh perspectives, each of which contributes something unique and inspiring.

VJ Samm does, however, give straightforward advice: “Be patient. Take your time. You don’t have to be amazing right away. Even now, I don’t think I’m the best. But I’m the best at being me. That’s what matters.”

Samm is a die-hard fan who grew up listening to bands like Fall Out Boy, Chicosci, and Blink-182—her brother's pop-punk and her father's New Wave. She currently enjoys pop artists like Charli xcx and Sabrina Carpenter, as well as Cup of Joe

Her dream interview subject? Ariana Grande. “She’s been through so much. I’d love to ask her how she healed, how she evolved,” she said.

Even though she has done countless interviews, Niall Horan sticks out. “As a former Directioner, that was peak for me,” she smiled. “Sometimes, being a fan helps you connect.”

For the past seven years, Samm has been consistently enthusiastic. "I still get giddy. I still get anxious. I still adore it, though,” she said of her job as a MYX VJ.

Her story is more than a career—it’s a love letter to music, fandom, and staying true to yourself.

“Just be you. Have fun,” she advised her fellow MYX VJs Robbie Jaworski, Ameera "Eya" Almamari, Ella Regudo, Kring Prologo, Ozzie Llige, and Jarren Garcia. “That’s what I always tell them. That’s what I keep telling myself, too.”
