Every MYX VJ offers something distinct to the table, and as for VJ Ameera “Eya“ Almamari, she brings nothing but flavor. Well, “Eya“ is not just her catchphrase, but it’s also her whole vibe.

“At first, [I thought of the moniker] because it rhymed lang. And then I realized na parang I want to bring something different to the table. I want to be more bubbly, more lively, parang enthusiastic that would make the artists feel comfortable and that they could bring a different side or different flavor to them in the interview,” Eya revealed.

Her journey to the VJ spotlight wasn’t without its shadows. In fact, it almost didn’t happen. “I was contemplating na muntik ko na hindi ma-send ‘yung application ko because at that time, it was the start of our semester pero pa-midterms na kami. So, I was super busy. I wasn't going [through] social media,” she recalled.

But then, a spark came just in time: a mentor from her voice-over work sent her the MYX VJ search post, telling her, “Ameera, I think you should try this. Parang bagay ka dito.” While a rush of excitement is yet to sink in, a moment of self-doubt crept in for Eya. “I started doubting myself and like, ‘Oh my God, kaya ko ba talaga ’to?’ Parang there's already so much going on,” she confessed, adding how she had just faced a string of rejections in the year for courtsiding.

Despite the fear, she hit “send” at 11 PM on the deadline day, letting the universe take it from there. “And then I said, ‘If this is for me, it's for me.’ And kung makuha ko man ‘to, it's a full circle moment for me because I've always wanted to be on MYX before,” said Eya.

Growing up, Eya was more the “shy but silly when alone” type. But watching Ai dela Cruz on-screen unlocked something in her. “I'd see her on TV, and then she's so natural with her kulit. Parang nalalabas niya lagi ‘yung personality niya. She's so bubbly, she's so lively. So, I'd always think na I want to be like her one day.”

While her first celebrity crush was Robi Domingo, it was VJ Ai who became her north star: “You wouldn't feel like she's hosting anything. You'd feel like she's talking to you directly na parang you're just friends and she's just there to introduce your artists to you. So, that's why I love her so much.”

You might think she had a playbook or training lined up—but nope. When it came to preparing for her own audition, Eya didn’t turn to formal training or even direct mentorship. Instead, she sought out authenticity.

“I actually didn't train or ask for tips. As in, naghanap lang ako ng YouTube videos of old VJs who posted their audition videos. And then I said, ‘Okay, so talagang personality ‘yung labanan.’ So, I took inspiration from that,” she shared.

“I think I prepared myself by just conditioning myself to put my personality out there. Don't be stiff. Don't be shy. Parang i-let go mo na lahat ‘yun. I want to show people who I really am. Parang I don't want people to think na wala akong personality. E, meron naman. That's why I also chose Eya kasi feeling ko Eya is the true me. It's the girl who my friends know, who my family knows na nilalabas 'yung kulit niya. So, it wasn't really about the skills. It was about who I am,” she added.

When asked about her most iconic VJ moment? Interviewing SB19! “Before that, I was having imposter syndrome. Malala talaga! I practiced multiple times in the car how I'd ask the questions, even how I would react. Like, ganu'n ako ka-nervous,” she laughed. “But it was super iconic kasi I did not expect the fans to actually appreciate the way I interviewed them. Parang it was kind of a validation na what I'm doing, the hard work I'm putting in is really paying off.”

When she’s not VJ-ing, she’s vibing to Cup of Joe’s new album ”Silakbo.” Her music taste? Quite unpredictable—from indie pop to French jazz to tita anthems like “Especially for You,” her Spotify Wrapped once revealed she’d listened to music from 60+ countries. “I don’t even make playlists,” she shrugged. “When I like it, I like it.”

VJ Eya also dreams of interviewing One Direction and SEVENTEEN, saying, “Not just because idols ko sila, but I want to challenge myself to stay professional when I interview them.”

Taking on the VJ stint is not always a breeze. For her, it’s challenging to make artists—especially big groups—feel comfortable in a span of 15 to 30 minutes. “Sometimes only 15 minutes is given to you. So, you're not really given that pre-chika,” she mentioned.

“Another challenge is trying to boost MYX to other people, trying to get ourselves out there because it's been so long since there's been an audition and MYX search. So hopefully now, people are becoming more aware of who we are as VJs and mas tangkilikin nila ’yung shows na pinapanood namin because it's really all about what the fans want,” Eya added.

It’s that love for the music, for the artists, for the fans that powers everything Eya does.

Leaving a love note to the MYX fans, she stated, “Don’t lose faith because this is something that you grew up with. This is something that you've loved before. And this is something that I hope the newer generation will grow up with because MYX is not just here to show you music videos or show you new VJs. They're actually here to uplift local music, international music, and new artists. So, kapit lang kayo, guys, because MYX has so much in store for all of you.“

VJ Eya shares the spotlight with five other new video jocks, who represent the new generation in the music channel’s new era: Robbie Jaworski, Ella Regudo, Kring Prologo, Ozzie Llige, Jarren Garcia, and Samm Alvero.
