San Miguel Beer has decided to look for another import for the coming PBA Commissioner’s Cup as their usual reinforcement Charles Rhodes won’t be available in the mid-season tournament.

The Beermen’s team manager Gee Abanilla believes Troy Gillenwater fits the bill.

“We are confident that Troy can do the job," said Abanilla in Spin.

The 29-year-old Boston native was left out in the 2012 NBA draft but was the number 2 overall pick in the 2014 Korea Basketball League (KBL) draft.

Gillenwater is already practicing with the Beermen.

San Miguel initially wanted to stick with Rhodes, a former PBA best import.

But Rhodes is still committed to KCC Egis squad in the KBL, and they are in strong contention for a finals berth.

San Miguel coach Leo Austria has denied having a misunderstanding with Rhodes, who helped them beat the TNT Katropa in the finals last year.

"Charles Rhodes is not available and is still playing in the KBL. People are just speculating on a lot of things," he said. "But then you know how it goes for all imports."
